E-Bike brands, make connectivity your own with API

API (Application Programming Interfaces) are interfaces that enable information to be exchanged and collected quickly and easily. Thanks to API, electric bike brands can combine Velco’s expertise in connectivity with in-house design to build their own softwares and customise the digital experience they want to provide to their riders.

How do APIs for E-bike brands work?

A true bridge between Velco’s premium IoT devices and the customer’s database, the APIs enable both parties to communicate. They define how the applications interact with each other, the nature of the data collected, and the possible responses.

Integrated into electric bikes, Velco IoT devices record a wide range of data on the bike and its environment: speeds, real-time geolocation, battery status, etc. This data is then collected by Velco servers and made available to the brand via APIs.

Thanks to these processes, e-bike brands can transform the data collected into its own software ecosystem: mobile or web application, partner application, cloud.

Velco APIs for bicycle brands and manufacturers

Velco wants to offer brands the choice on their digital strategies. Brands can choose to use Velco Software suite, or can use Velco APIs in order to use our connectivity expertise in their own softwares. We designed our APIs so that our solutions are as customisable as possible for brands, whether to offer their own graphic environment, complement existing expertise or integrate data into your in-house software. Velco Front-end and Back-end APIs are REST JSON compliant.

Velco APIs are easy to integrate. We provide a standard swagger documentation that is simple to handle and apply and a rigorous versioning of each end point improvement to ensure continuity of service and give you time to make any necessary adjustments.

PUSH & PULL MODE ON VELCO APIs

Velco API works with push and pull mode, to optimise experience and efficiency:

Push mode :

In push communication mode, Velco servers send data to the e-bike brand as soon as new information is received. This communication mode provides continuous, real-time data: GPS position, battery percentage, km covered, total distance, etc. The update frequency is set depending on the end-point to provide the best balance between cost and optimised experience.

Pull mode :

In the pull communication mode, the client takes the initiative in querying the server for information. It’s used, for example, to find out the SOH of the bike’s battery and thus get an overview of the state of ageing of the bike fleet’s batteries.

Who are APIs for ?

While APIs allow a great deal of freedom in terms of data interpretation and transformation, it’s a resource-intensive approach. To this extent, the adoption of APIs would be more suited to brands that already have the internal or financial resources to transform the data they collect into software solutions and connected services that are relevant to the cyclist.

For E-bike brands who want optimize costs and time, Velco offers its own suite of software addressing the needs and issues of all industry players. Designed and engineered to help them develop a performance-boosting connectivity strategy, the Velco Suite includes :

  • Velco Rider: a customizable mobile application enabling the brand to reposition itself in the user experience by removing disincentives to cycling through connected services
  • Velco Business Insight: a strategic decision-making tool enabling brand owners and managers to understand the use of their product
